Context
The state of São Paulo has the largest public education network in Latin America, with 3.5 million students, 200,000 staff members, and 5,300 schools. In this context, addressing gender-based violence within school environments becomes even more complex. In partnership with the State Department of Education of São Paulo, we implemented a program aimed at transforming schools into safer and more welcoming spaces—capable of preventing, identifying, and responding to gender-based violence.

Our work
The “Violência Contra Mulher Não É Normal” Program (Violence Against Women Is Not Normal, in english) aimed to raise awareness among educators and students in the state’s public school system on how to identify and combat gender-based violence, using two main strategies: communication and training. We produced educational guides for children, adolescents, and education professionals, as well as audiovisual content aired on TV Cultura and the São Paulo Education Media Center. In addition, we held in-person training sessions and launched two online learning tracks for the entire state network, providing structured content to help professionals and students address and prevent gender-based violence in an ongoing and effective way.
