Context
Girl Up is a movement that connects girls and inspires them to become leaders and activists for social justice. After receiving reports of political gender-based violence among young people in its network, the organization reached out to us to create a resource that would address this issue. The goal was to clarify key questions and empower girls to face challenges that are often invisible or normalized in Brazil.

Our work
Together, Serenas and Girl Up Brazil developed the Pocket Guide for Young Activists on Gender-Based Violence—a practical tool designed to equip girls, adolescents, and young people with essential knowledge to strengthen their social participation and resilience against the many forms of gender-based violence they may face.
Written in clear and accessible language, the guide offers insights on individual and collective self-care, explains the different types of violence, and shares strategies for prevention and response. It also includes inspiring stories from activists to motivate girls to stand up for their rights and the rights of others.
To celebrate the International Day of the Girl, we launched the Pocket Guide for Young Activists at the “Super Meninas” event held in São Paulo. The launch included a reflection panel, “Girls for an End to Violence,” featuring inspiring leaders, young activists, and representatives from both Serenas and Girl Up Brazil.
